Second man dies following crash - Jaspers Brush

A recovery operation continues after two men died following a crash south of Berry overnight.

Just after 1am (Saturday 15 December 2012), a petrol tanker and utility collided at the intersection of the Princes Highway and Jaspers Brush Road at Jaspers Brush.

The male utility driver, who has not yet been identified, died at the scene.

The 59-year-old male truck driver was rushed to St George Hospital where he later died.

The impact ruptured one of the petrol tanks, causing ethanol to leak on to the road. Hazmat crews remain at the scene and an exclusion zone is still in place while the recovery operation is underway.

Police from Shoalhaven Local Area Command will establish and process a crime scene once the area is deemed safe.

The area remains closed with diversions in place; motorists are urged to avoid the area or expect significant delays.

The road is expected to stay closed until midday.

An investigation into the circumstances surrounding the crash is continuing and anyone who witnessed it, or the events leading up to it, should contact investigators.
