Police are appealing for public assistance after a shot was fired into a service station during an attempted robbery on the state’s south coast.

Just after 9pm yesterday (Tuesday 15 January 2013), a 35-year-old male service station attendant walked outside of a service station on the Princes Highway Tomerong to begin packing up for the night.

The attendant saw a man outside carrying a rifle and ran back inside locking the doors.

Officers have been told the man began banging on the glass doors with the firearm before firing a shot that narrowly missed the attendant.

The man then fled the scene and the attendant was not injured.

Police from Shoalhaven Local Area Command were contacted and arrived a short time later, establishing a crime scene that was examined by specialist forensic officers.

The offender has been described as being about 170cm tall, with a slim build and light brown complexion. At the time he was wearing a light blue coloured zip up jacket, a cream coloured baseball cap, and had his face concealed.

Three men missing after tinny capsizes - St Georges Basin

A search has been launched for three men missing after their dinghy capsized at St Georges Basin, on the state’s south coast, overnight.

About 10.30pm on Sunday (16 September 2012), four men set out from the Sanctuary Point boat ramp for a fishing trip.

During the night, one of the men stood up and leant over the side of the boat, causing it to capsize.

All four men were thrown into the water.

A 22-year-old Ashcroft man was rescued by a local resident on a paddle board after he heard cries for help about 2.30am today (Monday 17 September 2012).

The other men, aged 19, 26 and 29, remain unaccounted for.

An air, water and land-based search – involving police from Shoalhaven Local Area Command, Marine Area Command, Polair and other agencies – is continuing in a bid to locate the trio.

It’s understood the tinny did not have a motor and the men were not wearing life vests.

Click to enlargeA class from Milton Public School is now the proud owner of $1,000 worth of new books and a colourful reading mat after grade 2 student, Emily Stein, won the inaugural Ulladulla Carpet Court Storybook Challenge.

Emily submitted a story about what she loves the most in her community, winning the prize for her classroom, as well as a book package worth $250 for herself. Emily’s story talked about the good people and beautiful birds in her local area.

Ulladulla Carpet Court reported an overwhelming response from the local community to the inaugural Storybook Challenge, with wonderfully creative stories and pictures submitted from primary schools in the region.

The entries were voted for by the community to establish five finalists, which were then judged by Doug Gooch of Ulladulla Carpet Court along with local New South Wales author Tracey Hawkins.
