Three men missing after tinny capsizes - St Georges Basin

A search has been launched for three men missing after their dinghy capsized at St Georges Basin, on the state’s south coast, overnight.

About 10.30pm on Sunday (16 September 2012), four men set out from the Sanctuary Point boat ramp for a fishing trip.

During the night, one of the men stood up and leant over the side of the boat, causing it to capsize.

All four men were thrown into the water.

A 22-year-old Ashcroft man was rescued by a local resident on a paddle board after he heard cries for help about 2.30am today (Monday 17 September 2012).

The other men, aged 19, 26 and 29, remain unaccounted for.

An air, water and land-based search – involving police from Shoalhaven Local Area Command, Marine Area Command, Polair and other agencies – is continuing in a bid to locate the trio.

It’s understood the tinny did not have a motor and the men were not wearing life vests.

Police investigate violence at suspected bikie clubhouse

Police say four men are in hospital after intruders armed with baseball bats and a gun stormed a suspected bikie gang clubhouse on the New South Wales south coast.

Three men arrived at Shoalhaven Hospital about 9:15pm last night with various injuries after the violence in Huskisson, on the shores of Jervis Bay.

A fourth man arrived at the hospital a short time later with head and back injuries.

Detectives originally believed the first three men had been shot but now say only one man was shot and the others were seriously assaulted.

Local police commander Superintendent Joe Cassar says police are unable to say who stormed the building or why.

"The only information to date we have, is that it was a number of people that had forced entry into the premises," he said.

"They were armed with baseball bats. [They were wearing] balaclavas, so their identity wasn't forthcoming."

Superintendent Cassar says the victims were aged between 27 and 43.

One has been discharged from hospital and three others remain there in a stable condition, but police believe they will be released in the next few days.

Police have been told the injured men were at a house on Hawke Street when a number of other men forced their way into the building and assaulted them.

One of the intruders then shot at the group, injuring a 27-year-old man who suffered a gunshot wound to his leg.

Fridge Buyback saving South Coast residents hundreds of thousands on power bills

Fridge Buyback has helped over 39,000 South Coast residents and NSW residents to save over $11 million on their power bills every year.

Energy Savings program Fridge Buyback works with South Coast councils and is now targeting old energy-guzzling upright freezers, as well as the big old fridges in people’s garages.

Fridge Buyback is operating under the NSW Government’s Energy Savings Scheme.

Old fridges are one of the biggest energy users in the home, costing residents an average of over $300 a year to operate. And, old upright freezers use almost as much power as an old fridge.

Getting rid of the old fridge or freezer in the garage is one of the easiest steps households can take to cut their power bills,

Second fridges or upright freezers must be in regular use, built before 1996 and 200 litres or greater in size.

A $35 rebate is paid for collection from homes with six steps or less. Collection is free, but no rebate is paid, where collection involves between 7-20 steps.

See www.fridgebuyback.com.au or call 1800 708 401 to make a booking.
