P-plate driver kills elderly woman

A woman has died after being hit by a p-plater on the South Coast last night.

Shortly after 8pm, the woman was crossing Beach Road in Batemans Bay when she was hit by a Toyota MR2 travelling east.

The woman, believed to be aged in her 60s, died at the scene.

The 19-year-old p-plater was to the local hospital where he was subjected to mandatory blood tests.

Investigators from the Far South Coast Local Area Command examined the scene for several hours following the collision.

They also spoke with a number of witnesses in a bid to gather more detail about the moments leading up to the crash.

Investigators expect to formally interview the driver at a later stage.

In the meantime, they are appealing for anyone else who has information about the crash to contact them via Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000.
